Medicare Card Project
The Medicare Card Project (formerly known as the Social Security Number Removal Initiative (SSNRI)) is the project to remove the Health Insurance Claim Number (HICN) from Medicare cards and replace it with a new Medicare Beneficiary identifier.
The HPMS memo, dated May 2, 2017 titled “Future Updates to the Drug Data Processing System and Payment Reconciliation System to Accommodate the Social Security Number Removal Initiative (SSNRI)” is provided in reference to the SSNRI initiative.
This project became effective February 11, 2018.
